Funding for Research on Federal Governance and Europe

The academic association for Contemporary European Studies ( UACES ) offers

UACES & UACES-JMCT Scholarships

  • There are travel grants of £1,500 to support PhD students (or advanced research masters students) to undertake research abroad. Applicants must be working in a field related to contemporary European Studies and can be based in any country.
  • There are 4 scholarships available for candidates in any area of contemporary European Studies. There are a further 2 scholarships (UACES-JMCT Scholarships) reserved for candidates whose research incorporates the study of federalism / federal governance in relation to Europe, in line with the mission of our funding partner, the JMCT.

Furthermore, one of the above scholarships will be reserved for candidates from groups underrepresented in European Studies (incl. ethnicity, geographical location and discipline).

UACES Research Networks

Until 25th October, they’re accepting applications for UACES Research Network funding: this funding enables researchers to establish and develop international networks to advance research in an area of contemporary European Studies. Networks receive up to £5,000 over 3 years. 

3 new networks will be funded in this round: one of them must be related to the study of federalism / federal governance in relation to Europe, in line with the mission of our funding partner, the JMCT. To learn more, visit www.uaces.org/funding/rn/ 

Funded Research Trip to the Historical Archives of the European Union, Florence

In partnership with the JMCT, they are delighted to offer a scholarship for a PhD student or Early-Career researcher to visit the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) in Florence for 5-10 working days and conduct archival research.

The research must include surveying John Pinder’s personal archive which has recently been deposited at the HAEU.

Generous funding of £1300 is on offer for the successful applicant. £1000 is to cover travel, accommodation and subsistence whilst in Florence, £300 is to cover costs for attending the UACES annual conference in 2021. Learn more here (deadline: 31 December 2019).
