GIVO. Give Voice to Our Memories

GIVO - Give Voice to Our Memories. Den zor amare paramisienghe is a two-year project (2024–2026), co-funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme of the European Commission.

The project brings together partners from 4 European countries - including cultural organisations, academic institutions, and Roma and Sinti NGOs - committed to promoting democratic values through memory work:
- Centrul de Cercetari Culturale si Sociale "Romane Rodimata”, Romania
- Deina APS, Italy
- Stowarzyszenie Romow w Polsce, Poland
- Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy
- Sucar Drom, Italy
- Culture Hub Croatia Platforma Za Edukaciju Kreativnost I Poticanje Razvoja Kroz Kulturu, Croatia

GIVO explores how memory has been developed or forgot. By engaging with everyday practices related to migration, housing, and food, the project gives voice to stories that often go unheard - stories rooted in solidarity, care, and shared resistance.

Project objectives include:

  • Raise awareness of the Roma genocide by identifying, documenting, and sharing lesser-known memory sites linked to the persecution of Roma during WWII.
  • Bridge new research with existing knowledge through archival studies, Roma oral histories, and the creation of an International Virtual Museum on the Roma Genocide.
  • Disseminate knowledge and promote education by developing a multilingual educational toolkit for schools, teachers, and civil society organizations.
  • Improve remembrance policies by analyzing local, national, and EU-level approaches to Roma genocide commemoration and advocating for official recognition.
  • Establish a transnational memory network – the Cities of Remembrance International Network – connecting European cities committed to Roma memory and anti-discrimination.
