The International Summer School on Public Policy, organized by SPGI Department - UNIPD from 17 to 21 June 2024, is an initiative of the International Public Policy Association (IPPA) and is aimed at PhD students and practitioners who work in research centers or government institutions.

During the week, the implications of the evaluation approach on the policy process, on the role of citizens, on the implementation and effectiveness of European programs from a sustainability point of view will be explored in depth. You will be able to discuss your project with the teachers and receive useful feedback to improve it.

The Ecosocial Challenge: Politics, Policy, Polity

PROGRAMME AND STRUCTURE
The Summer School on The Ecosocial Challenge: Politics, Policy, Polity offers a series of lectures and interactive activities aimed at presenting and discussing the most relevant topics, studies and ongoing projects analyzing the social consequences of environmental policies from several disciplinary perspectives (especially, political science and sociology). More specifically, it focuses on ecosocial politics (conflicts, interests, etc.), policies (proposals, decision, etc.) and polity (public opinion, institutional structures, etc.). The Summer School adopts an interactive format combining lectures and seminars led by internationally renowned scholars in the field. Participants will also have the opportunity to present and discuss their own research.

The Summer School targets PhD students and early career researchers who are working on the above-mentioned topics and is aimed at allowing for advanced exchanges and engaged interaction between students and lecturers.

The Summer School will be held between June 24 and June 28 and will be organized as follows.

  • Morning lecture (1,5 hours) by invited speakers selected from the most prominent scholars working on ecosocial politics and policies issues.
  • Morning group discussion (1,5 hours) based on the presentation of the speaker
  • Afternoon workshop (3 hours) organized around the participants’ presentation (PhD students and early career researchers) and comments by the invited speaker and members of the local organizing committee.

ACCOMMODATION
15 single rooms with private bathrooms for the entire duration of the summer school will be guaranteed by the local organization.

TUITION FEES
No tuition fee is required.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA
WHO?
The Summer School is open to PhD students and early career researchers. The selection of the participants will be based on their CV and a short research abstract (500 words).

WHEN?
The deadline for application is April 21th, 2024. The summer school can host up to 15 participants. Successful applicants will be notified by May 3rd, 2024.

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON PUBLIC POLICY VENEZIA - PADOVA 2023

The fourth edition of the International Summer School on Public Policy Venezia-Padova will be organized from 3 to 7 July 2023.
The main objective of the Summer School is to provide advice and knowledge to Ph.D. students and young scholars on Public Policy theories, concepts, and methodologies to analyze public policy. In the course of 5 days, the Summer School will offer its participants the opportunity to attend the following activities: a) lecture sessions held by internationally renowned scholars followed by an interactive discussion on specific topics; b) a Round Table with all the scholars; c) workshops sessions that include the presentations of the research projects and discussion by students with the scholars and fellow students serving as discussants (45 minutes to 1h for each research project).

  Academic Year 2021/2022

  • The third edition of the Summer School on Normativity and Reality of Human Rights continues on its task of critically addressing the interplay between norms and facts about human rights. Two issues have emerged as particularly relevant: the call for “innovation”, loosely referred to as the need to incorporate technology in any research design, and the correlated imperative of producing “data-driven” research. The summer school aims to address these issues critically, assess their practical implications, and discuss their potential impact on a research project’s theoretical frame and methodological design. 
    The third edition of the residential summer school on “Normativity and Reality of Human Rights” is organised by the Human Rights Centre “Antonio Papisca” of the University of Padova and the Human Rights Consortium of the SAS at the University of London.

  • After a year break due to the pandemia, the International Summer School on Public Policy - Venezia-Padova 2022 , finally took place again in Italy, from 4 to 8 July 2022, in a hybrid format.
    The main objective of the Summer School is to provide advice and knowledge to Ph.D. students and young scholars on Public Policy theories, concepts, and methodologies to analyze public policy.
    This year's Summer School's theme is Policy processes and Governance.
    On-site attendance is limited to 20 participants. Virtual participation is unlimited but will only be open to lecture sessions.

  • The second edition of the Summer School on Normativity and Reality of Human Rights continues on its task of critically addressing the interplay between norms and facts about human rights. This year, the focus will be on the impact on human rights of new technologies.

The Summer School is jointly organised by the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies (SPGI) and the Human Rights Centre “Antonio Papisca” of the University of Padova, and the Human Rights Consortium of the SAS at the University of London, and in cooperation with the School of Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg.
